Colateral Damage

I HATE Window Operating Systems!!!!!!!!
I bassically just finished this blog and guess what Yea Internet Explorer decided to die on me for no apparent reason. *Just 5-6 months til i get my mac. Just 5-6 months til i get my mac.Just 5-6 months til i get my mac.*
Im just going to keep on telling myself that

ok well Im just going to use colateral damage the film we saw in class not the actual film as a piece to completly slaughter all my negitive ideas over. And not to say it was a bad film it was good i just really need someplace to let my outlet of anger toward our tiny little christian perspective and lifestlye. Ok to start out with, the film we had today was great it really was...however what was the point of the verse at the end? I dont even remember it. it wasnt even that big of part of the film I believe some quote from a philosopher would have been so much more effective because I know plenty of Athiest and i know if they need some wisdom they arnt going to run to the bible ok. However they will accept Aristotle, Plato, or any of those philosophers because they may talk about god but they dont talk abt the god of christianity. And when you throw a piece of scripture into a film I believe it will become less effective just for that face

This leads me into my next rant. I never want to be a "christian artist" i would love to work in the secular world and live with the artists who addreess suicide and cutting and sex because they dont have anything to limit themselfs they can put out whatever they believe and they dont care what christian or not. So I would rather be in a secular culture making great art with no boundaries than in a christian enviornment with boundaries

Now back to the film, this film is fairly simple: Child playing, Bombs shakes ground, People running away, realization of bombs, Adult takes kid away from where a bomb was abt to land. This is powerful and is talking abt colateral damage straight on. however, why so blunt. it seems like alot of our work is just a Story and really more than likely we've heard something like it before. And maybe bc its bc im a still photographer but I love the abstractness of a single picture. because it's not Hand feeding you the story line or the actuall meaning behind the photograph. its so much more abstract. And i believe that if the viewer isnt left with a feeling of needing to interpret the peice or confusion then i didnt do my job correctly

And yes for all you who want to defend this film I realize that it gets it point across and does a pretty good job of it expecially from freshman. But i just needed vent on a piece so i did it on this one

It's true that there are far fewer boudaries in the secular culture than there are in the Christian culture, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that there are none. The boundaries just take on a different form, that's all. For example, let's say you're working in a secular environment, things are going great, but then it's placed on your heart to make a great film with a (gasp) Christian message. And there's no covering up the fact that it's Christian, or at least, religion-based. In the secular world, that's a major taboo. I'm not saying that you need to work in a Christian environment, I'm just saying that either atmosphere will come with restrictions; it's just a matter of choosing which you'd rather deal with.

....And I won't comment on the Mac thing. ;)
